Interactive workshops: 18 and 21 April 2010

  • Workshop A: Building sustainability into district cooling
  • Workshop B: Understanding how new technologies can improve environmental performance

Sunday 18 April 2010

09.00 - 16:00 Workshop A: Building sustainability into district cooling

Rationale:

District cooling systems present a number of opportunities to minimise environmental impact compared to traditional cooling methods. This interactive workshop will engage delegates in the development of a sustainability plan for district cooling systems. Delegates will be encouraged to consider the full life-cycle of a district cooling system to account for embodied energy, the production process and system outputs, including waste.

Benefits of attending:

  • Identify logistical inputs to the district cooling process
  • Develop a strategy for minimising the environmental impact of district cooling operations
  • Guide suppliers to be environmentally considerate
  • Develop or review an environmental management system
  • Identify options for sustainable chilled water production
  • Implement a waste reduction strategy
  • Identify environmental indicators
  • Audit environmental performance

Workshop Leader:

Alan Millin
Industry Consultant & Trainer

Alan Millin is a Chartered Engineer and LEED Accredited Professional. He has over 30 years experience in the HVAC industry and also holds an MSc. in Software Development. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management and also of the Institute of Refrigeration, while enjoying Membership of several other UK engineering and management institutions. He is also a member of ASHRAE. He has served two leading district cooling companies as Technical Manager and has led the consultancy mission of Dubai World’s Facilities Management Division. He is now an independent industry trainer and consultant and regularly supports the UAE Society of Engineers in the development of the UAE’s engineering talent. Wednesday 21 April 2010

09.00 - 16:00 Workshop B: Understanding how new technologies can improve environmental performance

Rationale:

This workshop will provide an opportunity to de-mystify the new technology market. Delegates will discuss solutions with an objective session leader and improve their understanding of the risk, benefit and value provided by innovative solutions to cooling challenges.

Benefits of attending:

  • Develop effective planning to improve construction sustainability
  • Consider how utilising technologies can impact performance
  • Objectively evaluate available technologies to assist the purchasing process
  • Develop your understanding of the technology market place
