Masterclass: Sunday 15 February 2009

09.00 – 16.00 Calculation Of Real Cooling Loads

When designing a district cooling system, there are two critical questions which impact all other design decisions and can have a huge effect on both construction and operational costs. These questions are:

  • Is this the right figure for the room or building? and
  • Is this the right figure for the district cooling system?

Led by Andy Williamson, one of the region’s foremost experts on district cooling systems, this interactive masterclass will delve deep into one of the most complex issues involved in district cooling. Entering his tenth year in the Middle East and having worked in senior positions for Omrania, KEO, and Halcrow before taking his present role, Andy has a huge wealth of experience involving district cooling projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Bahrain and the UAE. Sharing lessons from numerous case studies, this full day session will focus on the intricacies involved in the realistic estimation of capacity helping you to realise the best and most cost-efficient system for your project.

The masterclass will be divided into six modules of approximately one hour each:

  • Module 1: The concept of comfort – what is enough?
  • Module 2: Design parameters and design margins
  • Module 3: Calculation procedures, programmes and modelling
  • Module 4: Building information modelling - architecture
  • Module 5: Analysis of calculations
  • Module 6: District cooling load – apportioning and delivery
